Vogue 8469, I Love Paris.

This is my Christmas dress, very easy vogue 8469.  Vogue was right on the mark when they classified this as very easy pattern. I made View B the shorter version, I love that the skirt finished exactly were I wanted it too without any alterations. There is a first time for everything!

I made it up with Michael Miller's "Eiffel Tower" fabric that I was receiving for Christmas, from my darling husband. I picked it naturally. He he.

I made it in a record time of 3 hours from tracing/ cutting to sewing, in my last class 2 weeks ago. I only had the hemming and zip left to do at home, which I left till 10pm on Christmas eve. So the zip could be better as I rushed it slightly, I have plans to put in a longer zip as I feel the 16 inch is a little too short. So it really only took about 4.5 hours, the last 1.5 hours I mucked around a lot, I was cooking as well as sewing. I can be Suzy home maker when the mood strikes.
I have to say I am very happy with how it turned out with one exception. My exception is I had to take the dress in so much at the waist when putting the zip in, it was so baggy the first time and the second it was too tight! The third time was a charm. I wore it with a belt in the morning, by the end of lunch it was off! Its a very good fit and I'm proud of myself for giving it a go. I think I'll make this dress again in a different fabric.

I should state that I originally saw the fabric from Rachel's blog, she inspired me to buy it when I saw it online. I feel slightly bad that I keep copying her ideas, but as they say imitation is the highest form of flattery! Thanks Rachel, for having great style.

I saw that the print comes in soft pink and black, should I get some to make a skirt or just leave it?

I found this sweet necklace in equip! It compliments the dress perfectly.

Lily white legs.

Have a safe new year everyone! Stay safe in this crazy holiday time.
Thanks for reading.

Belated Greetings

Merry Christmas! Sorry for the delay in the Seasons Greetings, I had a plan to post my christmas outfit up on Saturday, but alas time ran away from me!

I hope everyone had a safe and happy day, and spent sometime with your loved ones.
We had my parents and sister and brother in law over for lunch, nothing big, unlike last year, but fun nonetheless. We have plenty of food left over, which is most unusual.

Here is a photo of some of my favourite things that I recieved on saturday, I was very blessed to get a lot of nice presents and 3 spotlight vouchers! Come wednesday the vouchers will be used. I plan to buy silk dupion in indigo, for $8 per metre!

january to early febuary. I plan to stay home and sewing but mainly enjoy the hot, summery weather. I'll put my plan of what I want to sew up soon. I hope to have most of the prep work done before so I can just sew and not mess around with cutting and tracing patterns out.

Stay safe. Kat

Missing in action

It seems ages since I last posted with something interesting. My parents have arrived back from Uganda, so I haven't been able to use the Internet, or get into my sewing room. I can see my machine, surrounded by all the boxes of stuff that have been in our storage room. Sewing has been thin on the ground, but I have managed to whip up a dress, from the fabric that I am getting for Christmas. I will post photos once i finish the hem.

Some books that I am reading, Wife dressing by Anne Fogarty and Colour me beautiful. I was going to buy CMB from the book depository but thankfully my mum fished out a copy from their vast book collection. You can't beat something that's free, can you. Both books are very interesting read although with Wife Dressing I have rolled my eyes a bit.

I have been experimenting lately, I feel like a change in my life in certain areas, mainly hair and beauty. In my quest for red/interesting/different colour lipsticks, I have come to realise red lipstick colour doesn't suit me in yellow base red, which seems to be very popular and readily available. I have bought about 5 different shades of different brands before I cottoned on to needing a blue based tone. Does any one have suggestions where to find a blue based lipstick or should I just give up? I have discovered fuchsia which is so pretty although I tone it down a lot. I also bought a matching nail polish to the fuchsia lipstick.

Thanks for reading my ramblings.

Merry Christmas.

Here it is, well most of it anyway. There are a lot of patterns, I'm hoping one day when I die that some young girl is going to love me. hehe. Feel free to shame me into getting rid of some, which I plan to do after christmas as really I can't use them all. Can I?

Another BMV Haul

Its official....I am now a pattern collector and I may have a serious problem.

Sign me up for a support group!

What I bought at the vogue sale:

I bought two other patterns for my dear mother in law who I have inspired to start sewing again after many years of absence. With the price of shipping going to be a whopping $55 USD if I added anymore. Vogue 8701 will have to linger on my wishlist for a little while longer. I look forward to recieving these patterns as I hope its going to be a very hot summer.
What did you get at the sale?
